Work bench 6 end boards and leveling the table

cut in half
Yesterday we talked about the end boards  and how they are done
First cut them in half , use a draw saw so you wont loose too much material because the board is already to size
Lay out your pin locations, drill them out and put the board  back together and in place
layout

drill out the peg holes

glue up the pegs and drive them home

Make up the  knobs for the end board
position the end board and mark the screw locations

Knobs in place and end board done. Both sides where done the same way

Now we have to level the table top note the 2x4 stock in the above picture these two boards will be my strait edge

to do this mount the straightedge boards to the side of the table temporarly,
then string your carpenters sting in a cross form as shown

when they are just touching the entire table top is square on all four sides.

Now its time to set up and build the router sled

This is a router sled its just a board with the router mounted inside and it slides up and down the table
Using this locate the lowest point across the entire table preset that height on the router and that is your finished table height. Getting to that point is going to require a lot of back and forth making sure no chips get on to your railing.

I took the vice apart and the hardware is nice but because of the table design I don't think i will be able to use the old style carpenter vice , bummer  its a mounting problem so im going to have to come up with something a bit different and still use that wonderful hardware.

Ok here is where we are at and Monday is a fresh start. Then we are going to videotape the dis assembly and reassembly
